How does a sewing machine ?

Knowledge
A sewing machine is a mechanical device that sews fabrics together using threads. It works by forming an interlock stitch through an interlocking system between the top thread, which comes from a #bobbin, and the bobbin thread, which is wound on a bobbin (#bobbin). Here is a step-by-step overview of how a #sewing machine works:
  1. Threading the machine: The sewing machine is threaded by passing the thread from the bobbin through various guides and tension control devices and then pulling it through the eye of the needle.

  2. Bobbin insertion: The bobbin, a small thread wrapped bobbin, is placed in the bobbin case below the needle. The thread of the bobbin is threaded through the tension mechanism of the bobbin case and pulled up through the needle plate.

  3. The needle and the sewing foot: The needle, which is fixed in the needle clamp, moves up and down and pierces the fabric with the needle inserted. The sewing foot, a metal or plastic device under the needle, holds the fabric in place and controls its movement during the sewing process.

  4. Stitch formation: As the needle moves down, a loop is formed on the underside of the fabric. At the same time, the underlying rotary hook or shuttle mechanism grips the loop of the top thread and wraps it around the bobbin thread. This forms the locking stitch.

  5. Feeding the fabric: After the stitch has been formed, the fabric feeders, small toothed metal bars under the needle plate, move the fabric forward a certain distance. This creates even and consistent stitches.

  6. Repeat: The needle continues to move up and down, forming more loops that are caught by the hook or pendulum shuttle mechanism and locked to the bobbin thread. This process repeats as the sewing machine sews along the fabric.

The sewing machine is controlled by either a fuà pedal or an electronic speed control that adjusts the speed at which the needle moves up and down. Sewing machines often also have different stitch settings, such as straight stitch, zigzag stitch, and decorative stitches. By selecting different stitch settings, users can achieve a variety of effects and finishes for their sewing projects.
