Nason launches online catalog with 3D CAD models

Nason, a South Carolina-based manufacturer of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, switches and transducers, is applying new thinking derived from a completely market-driven approach. Nason adapts to customer requirements rather than the customer adapting to the products available. This new way of thinking was the catalyst for the interactive product configurator and the download of 3D CAD models supported by CADENAS. The new configurator makes it easier for Nason's customers to visualize the variety of configurations available for each product, while making it quick and easy to specify and integrate these products into their designs.
In the past, Nason's customers had to call or email to request specific product models for their designs. This process was very labor intensive for the Nason development team, and often customers did not know how many variations of each product were available. After receiving requests for interactive configuration options and 3D previews, Nason saw an opportunity to take its business to the next level.
"Our paper catalog couldn't properly convey the variety of product options we offer," says Bill Sanders, Director, Sales & Marketing at Nason. "For products where our competitors offer four or five mechanical connections and a couple of electrical connections, we have 91 different mechanical connection options and 68 different electrical connections. We had to resort to an online configurator because our catalog wasn't detailed enough to show our customers what we really offer. Now they say: 'Wow, Nason can do all that?"

The goal of the new configurator and 3D CAD models is to make Nason the easiest option for customers while standing out from the competition. When customers configure and download a product, the Nason sales team will often follow up and provide a free product sample for the customer to test depending on the task and application. Also, unlike many other manufacturers, Nason does not have a minimum order quantity.
"Nason has a reputation for being the company that makes the crazy things - the specialty or one-off products that other manufacturers just won't make," says Jay Hopper, president and COO of CADENAS. "Now that reputation is becoming clear to engineers and designers who now have access to thousands of possible configurations. Combined with Nason's customer service and the fact that there is no minimum order quantity for customized products, Nason customers will be thrilled."
