A hydrocyclone is a device used to separate solids and liquids in a flowing medium. It consists of a cylindrical housing that is open at one end and a removable lid at the other end. Inside is a spiral-shaped element called a cyclone body. The medium to be treated is introduced into the unit through the open end and rotated through the cyclone body. The solids are pressed against the wall of the housing by the centrifugal force and are dragged downward, while the liquid escapes upward through the open end.
